A Bit about Barrett

Barrett Chrissis

Barrett was adopted from a Duluth orphanage when he was six months old, and now works as a police detective. His grandparents came from Greece and Germany to work on the railroad while his mother, (whose parents came from Norway and farmed), became a small business owner, wrote for the local newspaper, and retired from retail sales. His dad Robert was a combat wounded WWII Purple Heart recipient who retired from the railroad. Between his dad and Grandpa Chrissis they served over 50 years on their local city council. Given witness to hard work, teenage Barrett worked tirelessly for local businesses, ran his city warming house, delivered newspapers, cooked for a local restaurant, played drums in a professional band, and supervised a large retail store’s warehouse.

His appreciation for hard work and government grew when he attended MN Boys State, and he then enrolled at Moorhead State University to play drums for their Jazz Band while majoring in Criminal Justice and Social Work. Barrett and his wife Kristi recently celebrated their 7th wedding anniversary. The Chrissis' and their children, Sierra, (10), and Raya, (2), attend Spirit of Joy Lutheran Church, Buffalo.

In 24 years of police work, 19 as a detective, Barrett has taken on gunfire, and survived other deadly attacks on his life. He’s saved several lives by performing CPR and taking other actions. A fact finder in our criminal justice system, Barrett's not retiring from police work. Rather, he hopes to put his dedication to public service to use for our district as State Representative during the annual sessions, and being accessible through his local office throughout the year.
